The EuroMed Conference hosted for the first time in Asia Pacific

K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR), Mumbai hosted the 13th edition of the Conference of EuroMed Academy of Business for the first time in the Asia Pacific from 5th to 7th February. This European Mediterranean (EuroMed) conference is one of the most renowned annual conferences in the arena of business management. The magnitude of the conference, along with its quality of content and standing reputation of attendees are some of the elements that deserve special mention. Previously this conference has been held in countries like France, Italy, Cyprus, Greece, Switzerland, Poland, Norway, etc. This year’s theme was ‘Business Theories and Practices around the World’. The conference saw research paper entries and delegates from the following 16 countries: India, Israel, United Kingdom, China, UAE, Ukraine, Oman, Belgium, Morocco, France, Romania, Germany, Portugal, Italy, USA and Argentina.
Day 1 commenced with a pre-conference workshop conducted by Prof. Sim B. Sitkin, Director – Science and Policy Center, Faculty Director – Fuqua/Coach K Centre on Leadership and Ethics, Duke University, USA on ‘The Paradox of Stretch Goals’ This was followed by another session by him on ‘The Importance of Organizational Learning from failure’.

 

Second day began with the formal inaugural ceremony, with the Guest of Honour, His Excellency Yaakov Finkelstein, Consul General of Israel in Mumbai, enlightened the audience about the trade relations between India and Israel. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Sim B. Sitkin. Prof. Yaakov Weber, Director, Research Unit School of Business College of Management (Israel) spoke about how the EuroMed conference came to India.

The inaugural ceremony was followed by a panel discussion on ‘The Challenges and Opportunities of Emerging Markets’. The eminent panelists included Mr. Ronald Sequiera, Entrepreneur-In-Residence, Samara Capital, Mr. Sanjiv Sarin, Former MD and CEO, Tata Coffee and Prof. Sim B. Sitkin, Duke University. Prof. Isaac Jacob, Professor & Area Chairperson – Marketing and International Business, SIMSR was the moderator for the panel discussion. The day concluded with ‘India Calling’, a mesmerizing array of Indian cultural performance like Bharatanatyam, Yakshagana, etc.

On the last day, a discussion and practice session on Yoga and Mindfulness took place, which was be followed by a panel discussion on ‘Sustainability in Emerging Countries – Opportunities and Challenges’. The eminent panelists were Prof. Vijay Pereira, Khalifa University (Abu Dhabi, UAE), Prof. Yaakov Weber, Director, Research Unit School of Business College of Management (Israel), Prof. Glenn Mushcert, Khalifa University (Abu Dhabi, UAE), Prof. Sim B Sitkin, Duke University (USA), Prof. Yama Temouri, Khalifa University (Abu Dhabi, UAE), Prof. Dimitrios Reppas, Khalifa University (Abu Dhabi, UAE) and Prof. (Dr.) Rushi Anandan, SIMSR as the moderator. The conference concluded with the announcement of Best Paper award to Gabay G from College of Management Academic Studies (Israel) for her research paper on ‘A Mind-Genomics Cartography for Improving Public Awareness to Diabetes’
